Kids' Neighbourhood Business Android App
Vancouver Townhouse Complex Micro-Business
Laroma AI built a custom offline Android app using Emergent and Claude for a kids' mini business in a 150-unit Vancouver townhouse complex — tracking trash pickup, recycling runs, and can & bottle collection across units when paper bookkeeping kept failing.
The problem
Kids started a neighbourhood business (trash pickup, recycling runs, can & bottle collection) across a 150-unit Vancouver townhouse complex. After a few units they realized running a business is harder than it looks — they kept forgetting who paid, which unit gave recyclables, and what was actually collected. Paper bookkeeping taught by a parent did not stick.
What we built
Using Emergent and Anthropic Claude, we built an offline Android app in about two hours. Tested in Expo Go, sideloaded onto an old phone, and the girls were live the next morning — tracking payments, units, and collections without paper.
Outcomes
✓Idea to sideloaded Android app in ~2 hours
✓Offline tracking for payments, units, and collections
✓9-year-olds running their neighbourhood business on AI-built software
✓The gap between we have an idea and we built an app has never been smaller
